Home Visiting Program

Nevada Families First

Community Chest and Lyon County Human Services have implemented Nevada Families First (NFF), a Parents as Teachers™ affiliate program. Parents as Teachers™ is a nationally-recognized, high-quality, evidence-based home visiting model that connects overburdened families with child development assistance, education, information, health and developmental screenings, and resources. The national Parents as Teachers™ vision is “that all children will learn, grow, and develop to realize their full potential.”

This is a free and voluntary home visiting program.

Home Visits:
During the home visit, the Parent Educator provides information about issues such as feeding, safe sleep practices, nutrition, bonding and attachment; and activities that can stimulate a child’s mind and growth. Health issues are addressed which may include smoking cessation, postpartum depression, health insurance and the importance of finding a regular health care provider. The Parent Educator can also provide education and support for breastfeeding mothers, screenings for potential health or social needs, and help get families connected to services from government agencies and/or community-based organizations.

Target Families:
Must be pregnant and/or have a child under 5 years of age
Must be a resident of Storey or Lyon County, Hawthorne, or Carson City
