Current Intern Spotlight

My name is Virginia, A.K.A Ginny, I moved to Northern Nevada from Southern California because I wanted to find a better place to raise a family and I found that here in Carson City. I have a 12 year old daughter and a 6 year old (soon to be) Step daughter, and here I feel safe letting my girls walk to the park and go play with their friends, I finally live in a place where I know all my neighbors and I adore it. I have an AA in Psychology, a minor in Alcohol and Substance Abuse and am currently finishing up my BA in Psychology at UNR. Psychology has been the only subject that ever held my interest since I took my first class at a community college at 16. My life path has taken me in many different directions since then but has always dropped me back on Psychology’s door step. Understanding the mind is the puzzle I can’t stop trying to solve. I am also passionate about moving away simply symptom treating and looking at people holistically. Everything in our life, mind and body interact and you cannot treat one without the other. I plan to pursue a certificate in herbalism after my BA and incorporate that into helping people more naturally. My goal is to teach people how to make life style changes that will lead to them feeling better physically, mentally, and emotionally.

IMG_0080Emilee Wade is a Nevada native raised in Reno. She is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Social Work and has a minor in Alcohol and Substance Abuse. She plans to apply for the MSW program at UNR this winter. She is passionate about advocating for clients in need of services and believes in looking at people holistically. She believes it is critical to work toward decreasing stigma around mental health issues, especially among disenfranchised and marginalized groups. She is super excited to be a part of Community Chest Inc. over the next nine months as an Intern. During her spare time, she enjoys traveling, camping and spending time with family.

Stephanie Vargas is a Social Work intern and will be graduating this spring with a Bachelor’s in Social Work and a minor in Addiction Studies. Her goal is to be a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She chose Social Work because she feels she can be of most benefit to a substantial number of diverse clients with this degree. She had a personal experience being lost and feeling alone, and had a person who never gave up on her. She wants to be the person who will never give up on you.

Hi I’m Emily! I am a native Nevadan, born and raised in Carson City. I’m a student at the University of Nevada, Reno studying Community Health Science with an emphasis in Public Health. After graduation, I would like to pursue a master’s degree in Public Health, focusing on international health and wellness. My ultimate goal is to become a global health specialist in order to create prevention and immunization programs within third world countries. In my free time, I like to hike or walk, listen to music, and spend time with family and friends. I am very excited to be working with the Community Chest this semester and helping those in the Virginia City area!
